The MkIII Steering wheel trim has been known to crack and peel, leaving behind a sharp-feeling and sometimes-visible artefact behind.
Time Required: 15 minutes
Tools Needed:
Knife
Sandpaper
Clear nail polish
Procedure:
Using a sharp knife or razor blade, trim off the protruding excess chrome laminate.
Carefully, with a high-grit sandpaper (800-1200), gently smooth out any roughness left on the corners of the steering wheel trim.
There's white plastic beneath the laminate. You may wish to paint a silver nail polish or other matching enamel paint over the white area. Allow it to dry fully before continuing.
Paint a moderate coat of clear fingernail polish over the affected area. Ensure windows are open enough to allow fumes to exit. Allow it to dry fully before driving the car.
